Wolmersley Community Handbell Ringers

December 5th, 2017

In both our Christmas concerts there will be a performance by Wolmersly Community Handbell Ringers who will play some of their own pieces, as well as accompanying the choir in a couple of the carols. They performed with us last year, and were very much appreciated by the audience, and we look forward to hearing them at both Cowick and Drax this year.

Venue Changed to Cowick for our Christmas Concert

November 25th, 2017

Unfortunately, there is a problem with the heating at the Chapel in Snaith, which has meant that our rehearsals have had to move back to Wesley Place. This also means that our Christmas Concert, scheduled for the Chapel has moved to Cowick church on Thursday, December 7th at 7.30p.m.

Cowick Church always make us very welcome, when we sing there, and we are looking forward to a night of wonderful music in a lovely atmosphere.

Preparing for Christmas

November 5th, 2017

After our half term break, we are starting to prepare for our Christmas concerts. We have 2 concerts planned this year; a performance in Snaith Chapel starting at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, 7th of December and one at the Drax Social club on Thursday 14th of December, also at 7.30 p.m.

We also sing for charity in the foyer of Tesco’s in Goole on Saturday 16th of September.

Highlights this year include several pieces by Bob Chilcott who is starting to threaten John Rutter’s dominance of the choral Christmas market. (Don’t worry….we will also be doing some Rutter)

Summer Night in Snaith Priory

July 8th, 2017

For our last concert of the summer, the healthy audience were treated to a very enjoyable evening of light summer music, very tenuously celebrating 200th anniversary of the death of Jane Austen. (Anyone present will have had to re-define their meaning of tenuous, and thank you Dennis Hardy for that.)

The Ukulele ensemble from the Howden branch of the U3A also delighted us with 4 sing-along pieces and a couple of solo items. They added greatly to the evening and we thank them very much for their participation.

Rehearsals of Carmina Burana start in the Methodist Chapel (Not Wesley Place remember) on Thursday, September 21st and anyone interested in coming along would be made most welcome.

History in the Making

June 30th, 2017

Snaith Choral Society held their last ever rehearsal in Wesley Place on Thursday 22nd June, as the building is due to be sold and demolished in July…….many happy memories.

Summer Concert Thursday 6th July 7.30pm Snaith Priory

May 20th, 2017

Preparations are now well underway for our summer concert in Snaith Priory on Thursday 6th July at 7.30pm. We will be performing pieces by John Rutter from his “Sprig of Thyme” folk collection, a vocal rendition of “Air on a G String” by Bach and pieces by Handel and Haydn as well as other surprises. Our soloist will be Carolyne Storey and pianist Peter Sproston and there will also be a performance by the U3A  ukulele group.

There will also be refresments

Our summer concert is always an enjoyable occasion, so put it in your diary.

Wonderful Night in Snaith Chapel

April 9th, 2017

The Choral Society pulled out all the stops to give a magnificent performance of the Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine by Fauré and The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins.

Solos by both Pam Waddington-Muse and Kevin Ormond and having Paul Tompson on the organ added to our performance of the Requiem greatly.

The Armed Man was released on 10/9/01 (The day before the Twin Towers) and it is sad that this performance was given after similar (although thankfully lower scale) incidents in London and Stockholm. The performance on the timpani by Chris Snowden added greatly to the evening, and the trumpet rendition of the Last Post  at the end of the performance, by Gabriel Snowden and James West, was perhaps the most atmospheric moment experienced by this choir member in 25 years.

The choir will have 2 weeks off, then enjoy our annual dinner, so the first Thursday back will be May 4th. If you would like to come and give us a try, you would be made most welcome.

Christmas Programme

October 21st, 2016

Our Christmas Programme this year consists of a Concert of Christmas Music with Carols at 7.30pm on Thursday, December 8th in Cowick Church, and a more relaxed concert and sing along carol session in Drax Social Club on Thursday, 15th at 7.30. This will hopefully have the same relaxed ambience that our concerts at the Brewers Arms had over the past few years. There will be a plate for donations after each of these concerts.

We will also be singing Carols in Tesco, Goole on Saturday 17th December at 10.30. This will be in aid of Dove House Hospice. We thank Tesco, Goole for permission to do this.

Reports from both the Cowick Concert and the concert at Drax latter in the week were very favourable, and we hope we have found a regular venue for our Christmas concerts

Lindsey Chamber Orchestra

October 21st, 2016

The Lindsey Chamber Orchestra ( who have accompanied us in our last 2 major performances) will be performing in Snaith Priory on Saturday 22nd October starting at 7.00pm
